Abanindranath Tagore's 'Katum-Kutum' comes to life at the Murshidabad Khadi Fair. An artist from distant Jalpaiguri has brought Katum-Kutum to Berhampore city. This unique craft is one of the major attractions at the Khadi Fair held at Barrack Square Ground. For the past three years, this art form has captured the attention of the district's residents. Many visitors are mesmerized by the astonishing sculptures and cannot take their eyes off them. They even purchase them as keepsakes for their homes. The collection includes everything from table lamps to dining tables, chairs, tables, and numerous home décor items.

But how is this Katum-Kutum different from ordinary furniture and home décor items? What makes it special?

Katum-Kutum follows a method quite similar to collage art. Various items such as discarded and waste materials, broken wood pieces, tree branches, dry twigs, and roots are carefully polished, shaped, and assembled to create unique decorative items. This art form has enabled many artists from North Bengal to become self-reliant. One such artist is Jyoti Sarkar, for whom this craft is both a passion and a profession.
