Now that you have the most beautiful, fabulous, wonderful hair color, how do you keep it at home? I have a few suggestions. One would be to make sure that you have a color-treated shampoo and conditioner.

Hair salons sell color-treated shampoos and conditioners. At a lower price, you can find plenty and plenty of shampoos and conditioners specifically for color-treated hair. They tend to be more moisturizing and more conditioning than some of the other types of hair shampoos and conditioners.

In addition to the over-the-counter things that you can find, simply in your beauty supply you can find some conditioners and shampoos that actually add hair color to your hair during the shampoo process. One of the hair colors that I feel fades the most and people come into the salon and tell me all the time is, "My red is fading. I just can't get my red to stay."

I feel like a shampoo that has red in it is the best way to go. I'm actually going to dump some in there to show you. This is a hair shampoo, but it actually has red hair dye inside. When choosing a shampoo with hair dye inside, you'll see an array of red shampoos. Some will say "for cool reds." Some will say "for warm reds." You have to determine whether you are cool or warm, and you can buy that hair shampoo for you.

I recommend you use the shampoo at least once a week. I also recommend to my clients that besides just washing their hair with the product, to leave it in for about five minutes and to really soak it in.

Another type of shampoo you can buy to help maintain your color at home is a purple shampoo. The purple shampoos are great, great, great shampoos for blondes. Blonde hair tends to get brassy and yellow, and different unwanted shades. These shampoos are actually violet.

It is a little freaky the first time you tell a client, you know, "Here's your beautiful blonde hair. Put a purple shampoo all over it." But it really does just eliminate any of the brassy tones that you have. And again, I would put this one in your hair once a week for regular shampoo, but leave it in, again, for five minutes. I put them in the bowl here to show you. But there is no need to use a brush or a bowl.

Using a color-treated shampoo and conditioner you will definitely maintain your hair color for much longer at home.

Something else you need to consider is also how often do you wash your hair? The more times you wash your hair the more often I might say to use a shampoo or conditioner with color in it. But basically it would be once a week.
