Mechanical transplanting is a relatively new technology being introduced rapidly in the core area of rice zone in Punjab. Major essentials and pre requisites of this technology have been highlighted in this video. Precise land leveling and preparation of uniformly healthy nursery are the most important pre requisites of this technology. There are some of the demerits of this technology but its merits are for more than its ill effects.
A rice nursery seeding machine is involved as the basic unit in the mechanical transplanting. Nursery is sown in at least 100 plastic trays of one cubic foot. Well dried and cleaned Silt soil is used as growing medium and 90-100 gram of rice seed is used in each tray for raising of healthy nursery. 8-10 kg of paddy seed is required for raising of 100-125 trays of nursery required for one acre. 20-25 days old, 5-6 inches tall nursery is preferred in this technology. Urea fertilizer is avoided and the nursery is raised mainly through DAP, SOP and Zinc sulphate. It is transplanted at 6 inches apart planting distance and row spacing is maintained 12 inches. After shallow puddling, It is transplanted in 1-2 inches of standing water. Small trans planters cultivate 4 rows whereas large trans planters sow 8 rows in a swath. Service providers may transplant rice at the rate of Rs.10 thousand per acre.
