In a sermon at Riverside Church on October 24, the Rev. Jim Wallis said black pastors across the country say voting rights is becoming their litmus test. If white pastors in their communities are not committed to defending the rights of their black brethren in Christ, then how -- or why -- would black pastors stay in fellowship and relationship with them?



"And in the fight for voting rights, everything is at stake. Not just equal citizenship, not just the future of democracy in this country, but the witness of the church. If we fail to make voting rights an issue of faith we risk future generations seeing the church as irrelevant, or worse, complicit."
