Saint-Germain-en-Laye (France)

Saint-Germain-en-Laye is located about 20 kilometres west of Paris and is easily accessible via the RER.

Les Parterres (0:12)

Take a walk trough Les Parterres, a beautiful park with wide-open spaces and manicured trees. The Terrace, which is over 2 kilometres long, provides great views of the Seine valley looking east towards Paris in the distance.

Château de Saint-Germain-en-Laye (1:00)

One of the most beautiful buildings in Saint-Germain is the Château de Saint-Germain-en-Laye, located at the south-west corner of the Les Parterres.

The first iteration of the château (or castle) was built in approximately 1122 by King Louis VI. In the centuries that followed the château has been expanded upon and reconstructed and is now the home of the National Museum of Archaeology.

Place du Marché Neuf (2:15)

Visit Place du Marché Neuf on Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays for family entertainment as well as to shop at a variety of vendors. Or sit down at one of the cafe's or restaurants along the market to have a drink or something to eat.

Church of Saint-Germain (2:45)

The Church of Saint-Germain is the final resting place of King James II of England and Scotland. The former king exiled himself in Saint-Germain in 1688 after he was forcefully removed from the throne.
