When you say "floppy disk", immediately it conjures up images of archaic computers from decades gone by. I used many of them in the early to mid 2000's. For a time, they were the primary way that people saved data. By today's standards, its small capacity is laughable, but at that time it was considered a godsend.
But as time went on, people turned more and more to USB flash drives. As the memory capacity of the flash drives got bigger and bigger, the days of the floppy disk became fewer and fewer. Of course, there were also other storage mediums like the CD-R, or even the zip disc, but eventually these all faded away in preference of the USB flash drive. And of course, many of us like to use external hard drives as well.
I was very pleasantly surprised when I recently saw a video about a man in California who still sells floppy discs. He insists that demand is still strong, and he claims that he even sells upwards of 500 floppy disks per day. I encourage you to watch the video. It is very interesting. I have a link to that video at the end of my video.
As surprising as it is that there are still folks out there who buy and use floppy disks, judging from what this man says in the video, it kind of becomes understandable, especially when he reveals exactly who is buying them. I found his comments about the airline industry very intriguing.
I still have a bunch of floppy discs that I used back in the day. A while ago I reviewed a device that will enable you to transfer information from your old floppies to your current laptop. It is a USB floppy disc drive. I will also put a link to that video at the end of this video.
Did you use floppy disks back in the day? Do you still own many of them? Do you still use them? If so, how do you use them? Please feel free to leave a comment!
