Mabuhay from Manila! In this video of Living the Jo Life, we visit the incredible capital of the Philippines, Manila, before embarking on a 3-week trip around the country. We start off our adventure by exploring the historic walled city of Intramuros. Stepping through those gates felt like stepping back in time, with its cobbled streets and grand old buildings. Next, we braved the bustling markets around Divisoria Mall. Wow, it was a sensory overload! From fresh produce to quirky souvenirs, clothes and shoes, there was something for everyone. Wanting to experience local transportation, we hopped on a jeepney, a brightly decorated minibus that's a Manila icon. If catching a tuk-tuk instead, remember to negotiate the fare clearly beforehand – we almost fell victim to a scam! But hey, that didn't stop us from belting out Bon Jovi songs on the backseat of a tuk-tuk. It turns out, Filipinos love a good power ballad too! After the jeepney ride, we ended up singing karaoke classics with the friendliest locals you'll ever meet. Filipinos truly have the warmest smiles and most welcoming spirit – we felt like part of the family in no time! We ended our night at the legendary Tutuban Night Market, which was another busy but amazing place for experiencing local life and the happy and welcoming spirit of the Filipinos. We also visited BGC, which has a completely different feel to the rest of Manila, with massive shopping malls, skyscrapers and upmarket boutiques and restaurants. Manila, was a whirlwind of sights, sounds, and incredible people. We can't wait to share more of our adventures around this magnificent island nation with you!
