Swapping Vintage Mx Black Components with Hyperglides Test

Описание к видео Swapping Vintage Mx Black Components with Hyperglides Test

This is a test to see what part of a Vintage Mx Black gives it its unique sound. I will be swapping one of the three components (top housing, bottom housing, stem) with a Hyperglide Mx Black. This vint is one of the notched-stem variants, so it may not have the same sound as other vints. Note that this particular vint is not the NOS one from my "vint vs retooled" comparison video, but it is the same switch from the "205g0 vs 3203/3204" lube comparison.

To get rid of all possible factors I cut off the extra two pins of the Hyperglide so both switches are 3-pin. Also, all switches are dry (no lube) and I use the exact same film and spring for the whole comparison.

Timestamp:
0:00 stock vint
0:09 stock hyperglide
0:20 vint with hyperglide top
0:38 vint with hyperglide bottom
0:57 vint with hyperglide stem

Conclusion:
Surprisingly the vint is very high pitched compared to the dull hyperglide. Whenever I swap one of the switch components with a hyperglide, the vint immediately sounds worse. When doing the test I can immediately feel a difference between the two even though they both have no scratch and are using the same film and spring. The hyperglide feels sort of heavier because it has more stem control, whereas the vint glides easier since there isn't as much friction between the stem and top housing.
