The perfect ergonomic gaming setup isn't that hard to figure out. Gaming desks, chairs, monitors, mice, and keyboards can all either be set up wrong, or right. Physical Therapist Dr. TomahawkCole goes over how to position each part of your setup to reduce injury and increase your comfortable play time.

Today we turn this, into this.

Hey everybody, Dr.TomahawkCole here for lighthawkfps. Today I’m going to go over the ergonomic setup of your whole gaming station. Away we go.

The first thing to look at is the desk. The most important thing about it is that it's high enough and deep enough that you can fit under it and fit everything you need on it. Also it's a big bonus for aiming if it has minimal wobble.

The most comfortable or uncomfortable piece of the setup is the chair. Chair height will depend on desk height and your height. You want to make sure you have your forearm supported on the desk. So pick the height where you can do that. And move close enough so you aren't reaching way out in front.

Next up is the monitor. When it comes to monitor placement you want it to be directly in front of you and raised so that your eyes are in line with the top third of the monitor. Now, most setups won't be able to raise the monitor that high.so you have a couple options. You can mount it to the desk which might be wobbly, to the wall, or for the easiest fix you can find something to put under the monitor like books. The best would probably be a wall mount, especially if you have a wobbly desk.

When it comes to keyboard placement what we are really talking about is wrist placement. You want to place the keyboard so that your forearm is supported and your wrist is in neutral positioning when over the WASD keys. If your wrist is in too much ulnar or radial deviation then that could lead to pain and injury later. So make sure that you place your keyboard in a ergonomic and comfortable place. Use a wrist rest of it feels more comfortable for you, it'll differ between keyboards

To find out where to put your mousepad, first you need to see where you'll be using your mouse. With your chair in the right position, put your arm down on the desk with your wrist in a neutral position and try moving it around a little to see where you're most comfortable using it. Find the center of that area and put your mousepad down there.

Now there are a few things I want to mention here. This can all be set up right, but if you do weird things with your legs, it could still cause some lower body problems. So make sure to not leave those legs in one weird position for too long.

Even the most perfect setup doesn't make it okay to sit in one position. Make sure to get up as often as you can to stretch out. The more frequent the better, but I know how hard that is.

There's your basic ergonomic setup.
