Why is it that the people with the least amount of knowledge often speak with the most confidence? In 1999, psychologists Justin Kruger and David Dunning published a study that gave a name to this phenomenon.

The results were staggering: those who scored in the bottom quartile (the lowest 25%) dramatically overestimated their ability, often believing they were above average.
