JOHNSON COUNTY PURSUIT ENDS IN SUSPECT FATALITY
December 25, 2024
At approximately 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, December 24, 2024, an Arkansas State Police (ASP) Trooper performed a Tactical Vehicle Intervention (TVI) maneuver to stop a fleeing suspect on Interstate 40 westbound near the 61-mile marker. The fleeing suspect, driving a 2006 Honda Pilot, died from injuries he sustained when the vehicle traveled into a wooded area north of the interstate, striking trees before coming to rest.
The Trooper initially stopped the suspect for driving 98 mph on Interstate 40 westbound near the 66-mile marker. During the stop, the 33-year-old suspect from Hampton, Virginia, gave the Trooper a false name and date of birth.
The suspect was wanted in Virginia for fleeing, giving false identification and being in possession of a controlled substance. A loaded handgun and drug paraphernalia were found in the suspect’s pockets. A taser and 4.9 ounces of cocaine were was located in the vehicle.
Information from the case file:
Upon reaching the final rest location of the Honda Pilot, a deceased black male was observed leaning out from the front
passenger window with trauma to the head. The seat belt for the driver seat was locked in the safety mechanism, the
vehicle airbags had deployed, and the steering wheel was bent. Damage to the Honda Pilot included the windows and
the windshield, the roof of the vehicle, the rear gate, and the front and the passenger side. Near the 3rd POI and within
a few feet of the vehicle, the car battery and engine components were observed. Next to the location of the body and
exterior of the vehicle, two (2) cell phones were collected as evidence. The first cell pone, ERE-1, was identified as a
black and silver Motorola cell phone. The second cell phone was next to ERE-1 in the underbrush and it was collected
as ERE-2, iPhone in a black case.
Due to the damage to the doors of the Honda Pilot, the Lamar Voluntary Fire Department was requested to remove the
front passenger door. Once the door was removed, several cell phones and a radio fell from inside of the vehicle
floorboard onto the ground. There were three (3) cell phones and a hand held radio observed to be powered off or
damaged, and were identified as a Motorola Smart Phone (ERE-6A), a purple Vortex phone (ERE-6B), a black
Torras phone (ERE-6C) and a Cobra walkie talkie (ERE-6D). A fourth (4th) cell phone was observed to be
operational, and it was collected as evidence (ERE-9, a T-Mobile blue cell phone). When collected, ERE-9 showed
directions to [redacted] Street in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. ERE-9 was then placed into airplane mode and
stored.
Located on the body was a revolver contained one (1) spent round and five (5) live rounds, a black digital scale, & 2 one dollar bills with a white powdery residue (suspected cocaine).
Located in the vehicle was a black stun gun and a black case containing suspected cocaine.
