1. Discipline
It takes discipline to get and stay healthy, just like it takes discipline to regularly pray and meditate.
A healthy lifestyle is the direct outcome of healthy habits. Eating well, exercising, hydrating, etc.
When you're undisciplined in your actions, both physically and spiritually, you feel misaligned.
2. Control of urges
In an age where temptations are all around us, we need to control our urges.
Being true to who we want to be, both physically and spiritually, is paramount.
Limit or avoid unhealthy foods, too much social media, pornography, drugs, and whatever vices dampen your spirit and leave you feeling empty.
3. Life energy
There is also a physical and spiritual life energy.
Good physical habits lead to a healthy body, a clear mind, and physical strength.
Good spiritual habits lead to joy, vitality, and a feeling of purpose.
4. Spiritual growth
Physical challenges help to make our body stronger and healthier.
Spiritual challenges help to make our faith and spirit stronger.
5. Fasting
Our physical & spiritual health both benefit from fasting and the practice of emptiness.
Physically, our bodies get overloaded with calories from indulgent foods.
Spiritually, we're overloaded with inputs that overwhelm us, test us, and push our limits.
6. Rest
Doing more, achieving more, working more.
This is what we're all pushed to do, to be seen as 'successful' in Western culture.
But our body and our spirit need rest, as well as activity, to be at its best.
7. Gratitude
Practicing gratitude helps us to be thankful for the gift of life.
Our spiritual health is impacted by the feeling of gratitude itself. It fills us up spiritually.
That has a knock-on effect in our physical health, with research proving a direct link!
