Did you know that many disinfectants contain toxic chemicals linked to adverse health impacts from asthma to reproductive harm?

In this third video in our four-part series, Summer Solstice Thomas, from Silent Spring Institute, discusses the health concerns associated with the use of disinfectants, and offers tips on finding safer and effective alternatives to combat illness.

Participants in the Cancer Free Economy Network’s Household Cleaners Health & Safety Lab - Hand In Hand, Make the Road NY, Women’s Voices for the Earth (WVE) and Silent Spring Institute - have created this video series to help provide simple information to reduce exposures from toxic chemicals in cleaning products and disinfectants. Particularly for household cleaning workers, who use these products for hours at a time, multiple days a week.

The videos include a focus on the use of disinfectants and harmful exposures associated with these products. The use of disinfectants is of particular concern due to the increased use — and the mis-use of these products — in light of COVID-19.

The videos are specifically designed to speak to employers about how they can protect the health of the household cleaners they employ, and the health of the people living in the home, including vulnerable children.
