The great Ustad plays a famous gat in Tilak Kamod of the Shahjahanpur repertoire which he imbibed from his peer sarodiya Ustad Sakhawat Hussain Khan. Both were friends and neighbours in Lucknow during the first half of the 20th century.

Ustad Yusuf Ali Khan (1887-1962) was a master sitarist as well as a renowned sitar maker of his time located in Lucknow. He was trained by his father Bhondu Khan and Ustad Abdul Ghani Khan of the now extinct Dhrupad Gharana of Kalpi. His sitar workshop was in the same house as legendary Ustad Sakhawat Hussain Khan´s family and they were close peers and exchanged many old compositions. He took over the sitar training of Ustad Sakhawat Khans younger son Ustad Ilyas Khan.

We did our level best to improve the sound but the source recording was very poor. We feel the rare and unique content makes up for that and the learned rasika is kindly asked to listen beyond the damaged surface.
