Autism, infants, and Zen 03/06

Re-section time, as if it were a vegetable,
Let us say, an artichoke.
And each leaf is a part of time, and what if you ate
That artichoke backwards- heart first then inner to the outer leaves?
What if you had a Merlin kind of life?
Are some derangements just living with desire out of time with the age of the body?
Grown men satisfied with warmth, sleep, and silence?
Child prodigies obsessed with artificial wisdom
Wandering time-lost amongst the book shelves?
Could there be a separate bodhisattva at every step a man takes
Along the path of life?
And would they be bodhisattvas at all?

Frank Miller once wrote about men born optimally for lives
In years that had passed long before their existence,
And in the absurdism of life are all the unwise and malformed
Merely sages in waiting for a timetable unseen?
And would such augurs be useful?
Or is one better off gazing at leaves of tea?

Is this one such a monk, profound but once a day,
A monkey otherwise, and at times even demon?

Is there a damnation of destinies of the body and the soul opposed,
Where enlightenment comes only as a zero sum game
A constant distributed across the attributes?

Whether to be, and in being transcend,
Or whether to transcend.
