Arrau plays Beethoven in 1947: Piano Sonata No. 32

Always happy to have a bit more of Chilean master pianist Claudio Arrau on the channel. Here we have a partial performance of Piano Sonata No. 32 in C minor, Op. 111. The complete first movement is here, but unfortunately only about half of the second movement. However, the quality is so good (much better than the Mozart Fantasy posted earlier) it’s very much worth sharing. Thanks again to Arrau fan and channel subscriber ‪@jagareco‬ helping me figure out if this was worth posting.

No date was on the reel, but from poking around some Arrau websites I found an entry that matches words spoken by the radio announcer that are not in this YouTube video. Likely November 18th, 1947.

This was broadcast on KUOM, the University of Minnesota radio station. The concert was held at Northrup Memorial Auditorium on the campus as part of a “Masters of Piano” concert series. The recording was likely done directly off the line to the radio station by Reynolds Marchant.
