How youth activists are suing the government | Spotlight EP 11, Earthrise x Bloomberg

Описание к видео How youth activists are suing the government | Spotlight EP 11, Earthrise x Bloomberg

In the fight against climate change, we’ve developed an arsenal of tools to make bad actors behave less badly: mass protests, voting for climate-friendly policies, civil disobedience, and consumer decisions. But there’s one more weapon that’s increasing in popularity and effectiveness: climate litigation.

Activist organizations and youth groups are suing governments for infringing on their rights to a good life. Individuals are suing oil and gas companies to seek compensation for climate-related damages linked to the burning of fossil fuels. In this episode, we ask the question: can the battle against climate change (and its aiders and abettors) be won in the courtroom?

We’d love to know your thoughts on this topic! Let us know in the comments below.

Spotlight is a 12-part series on climate solutions created in collaboration with Earthrise and Bloomberg Originals.
