(Most) Traders Aren't Quants

Описание к видео (Most) Traders Aren't Quants

There is a misconception that all traders are quants but quants aren't traders. The truth is they are two very different tasks. Quants are those building models for trading or investing strategies. Traders are those utilizing models or opinions to trade assets.

What makes this topic a bit confusing is that back in the day, "quants" did everything from developing model to implementing them in C++ or Fortran and then finally used them to trade. There are some firms that embrace this "full stack" quant mentality however most firms have evolved to specialized positions.

The best advice I can give anything about if a role such as trading is for them is to look on LinkedIn at those doing their dream job. Take a look at traders or quants at a firm you would want to work at and see what their background is made of. What degrees do they hold? What school did they go to?
