When to Start Homeschooling | Homeschool for Beginners

Welcome to Teach From Home! So many new homeschoolers want to know when to start homeschooling. In this video, I share tips for how and when to start homeschooling. This is Homeschool for Beginners.

Short answer: right now. If you don’t want your kids in traditional school anymore, homeschooling starts when you decide to do it. When thinking about when to start teaching your kids, you have to realize that you’ve been teaching them since the moment they opened their eyes when they were first born. When it comes to homeschooling, think about it as an extension of your life. You are not trying to change into your kid’s teacher like a traditional school teacher; you are still their mom who teaches them things, like you’ve been doing since they were born. Do your kids want to learn about something right now? Guide them in learning about it with them. Do you kids have questions? Help them find answers to their questions. Start taking them on trips to the library, if you don’t already, and let them roam around the kids section, fiction and non-fiction, to see if they can find anything that interests them. If there’s somewhere special they want to go, take them there if you can. Homeschooling does not have to be overly complicated; it’s just an extension of regular living. When you know that kids are learning from anything and everything that they’re exposed to, it makes you more intentional with how you live your life with them. What do I want to expose them to? What resources do I want to provide for them in our house? Where do I want to take them? What is our family culture going to be defined by?
