The Age Gap “Fantasy” for Girls | the Lolita Aesthetic, Lore Olympus, and Twilight

Описание к видео The Age Gap “Fantasy” for Girls | the Lolita Aesthetic, Lore Olympus, and Twilight

In this video I discuss the age gap fantasy aimed at tweens and teenage girls depicted in shows like Pretty Little Liars between Ezra and Aria, the comic Lore Olympus between Persephone and Hades, and the book series Twilight between Edward and Bella.

I also discuss the ‘Lolita’ aesthetic popularized in the 2010s by singer Lana Del Rey and how the misreading of the character, as well the romanticization of the age gap in young adult fiction and media for girls and young women by other women exists as an outlet in order to explore a societal taboo that girls are very much aware of, and to help them cope with the patriarchal societal expectations of being a teenager.
