Our first day back in Vietnam starts early in Ho Chi Minh City, where the parks are already full of people exercising, playing sports, drinking coffee, and hanging out together. Before we know it, we’re invited to join a game of Đá cầu with total strangers — and instantly reminded why Vietnam feels so social and welcoming.

We spend the day exploring Vietnamese coffee culture, trying egg coffee, matcha egg coffee, salted cream coffee, and the classic condensed milk coffee, while learning the story behind how egg coffee first came to be. As vegetarians, we also set ourselves a small mission we failed five years ago: find vegetarian phở in Saigon.

Along the way we hear incredible stories from locals who lived through the war, explore hidden historic spots, take a river cruise, and end the day in Chinatown somehow ordering 16 Vietnamese desserts for just $5.

This is our return to Vietnam — slow, unexpected, and already feeling like home.
