Actor Patrick Page | THEATER: All the Moving Parts

Описание к видео Actor Patrick Page | THEATER: All the Moving Parts

Actor Patrick Page discusses the role of the villain with Host Patrick Pacheco in the March 2021 episode of "THEATER: All the Moving Parts". Who doesn’t love a good villain, and Patrick Page plays them the best, including Hades in the musical “Hadestown”, for which he was nominated for a Tony and in his current one-person streaming show “All the Devils are Here” from the Shakespeare Theatre Company. In this conversation, Page delves deep into why he loves to play Shakespearian villainous characters from Claudius in “Hamlet” and Shylock in “Merchant of Venice” to Iago in “Othello”. Why did Shakespeare write them and why is the audience drawn to them? Page says, “The villain allows us to sort of go along for the ride and act it out in a safe way so we don’t have to do these terrible things.” Do these roles have a particular relevance today? Page tells us that his intense study of Shakespearian devilish roles has informed his playing the cartoon characters he is known for, like the Green Goblin in “Spider-Man”, Scar in “The Lion King”, and “The Grinch”. Pacheco asks which of these headline characters he would like to play: the former president, Harvey Weinstein, or Bernard Madoff? Watch the show to find out!
