Exclusive: James Maslow music, menswear & fitness

I spoke with James Maslow about the release of his new music video ‘Who Knows’ from his debut solo album ‘How I like It’ at the private social venue Hills Penthouse in West Hollywood. 2017 has been a busy year with his being crowned Macys iHeart Radio Rising Star in July and is ending with holiday bells when he performs at iHeartRadio’s Jingle Ball concert with a star-studded lineup including Taylor Swift, Demi Lovato, Sam Smith and more in Los Angeles and New York City. James and I chatted about his music influences, his role in an upcoming science fiction film, favorite holiday song, and how he stays fit when traveling.

On the single and video, James notes that, “’Who Knows’ tells a story that I think almost everyone can relate to—falling for someone who doesn’t reciprocate that love. Or worse, who takes advantage of it. But once you’ve been through that, hopefully you learn self-respect, no matter which side of it you’re on. So, I try and think of this experience as a learning one. . . This video is an amazing starting point for where I’m going to take both music and content as a solo artist. It’s only bigger from here.”

James Maslow is best known for starring in Nickelodeon’s internationally hit show “Big Time Rush” and for being a lead singer in the boy band of the same name. As a musician, Maslow was recently declared the winner in this year’s Macy's iHeartRadio Rising Star competition and opened the iHeartRadio Music Festival.
