Brent Cobb Sings & Shares the Story Behind "When It's My Time" | CONTRARY WESTERN

Brent Cobb knew the album “And Now, Let’s Turn to Page…” was complete when it sounded and felt like home.

His father, who leads singing in their small country church, and his sister helped Brent select eight songs from the hundreds that comprise the hymnals he and his family grew up singing along to. “These are the country gospel greatest hits,” Brent says of songs like “Old Rugged Cross,” “In the Garden,” and “Are You Washed in the Blood?” that made it onto his 2022 gospel record.

Here, the Georgia native shares the story behind writing the album’s only original track “When It’s My Time” with his wife and offers a stripped down acoustic version on his tour bus before a show at City Winery in Nashville. The original tune sounds as deep-rooted and even as holy as the others on the album and expresses an acceptant faith that we are where and who we’re supposed to be, that though we don’t have control there is some sort of greater purpose. His voice is his own on the other centuries-old numbers as much as this song—and with his band and his cousin and producer Dave Cobb, the songs transcend any single genre and move even the most spiritually calloused of us.
