In the YouTube description for “Hero” soldier 76’s short and the last of the 4 we’ve seen so far, blizzard mentioned it was the “fourth and final short for this season” - hinting at more seasons.
Reddit User DixonSeilem flagged that the Russian Overwatch page went live a little bit early with this graphic yesterday - and Blizzard have just announced today in English/worldwide that Season 2 of Overwatch Animated shorts will kick off with Bastion - next Thursday, August 18th, both online and at Gamescom, the huge European Gaming Expo!
"The Last Bastion" tells the origin story of the inquisitive transforming robot, Bastion. In this episode, we follow the forgotten battle automaton as it unexpectedly reactivates after laying dormant in the wilderness for over a decade. Fascinated by its unfamiliar surroundings, the curious omnic begins to investigate, but quickly discovers its core combat programming may have a different directive…
I’m personally very excited for this one! It’ll be great to see more about Bastion’s character, past, and also, telling its story may give us more insight into the first omnic crisis, as well as understand what’s caused this bastion to have a change in programming!
Gamescom also has other cool Overwatch and Blizzard stuff going on - the Atlantic showdown will see 8 teams fighting it out for 100,000$ in the largest Overwatch eSports event so far, and who knows - mei-be we’ll get some new content reveals too..as I’ve speculated in other videos, looks like a new map might be enroute sometime soon as well!
