With 37 years in the market and almost 6 million units sold, the Ibiza has become the brand's most successful car and also its best-selling model in Mexico . That is why the SEAT Ibiza 2022 is updated, to keep up with the most recent launches of the Spanish firm, with a deep interior update and more technology.
Don't stop too long to look at its redesign, because the exterior remains largely intact . The only trace of its facelift is found in the new italic typeface for the car's name and in an update to the SEAT logo, now with a two-tone chrome finish. That, together with three new wheel designs, LED headlights that are now standard (eco LED or full LED) and two new body colors (Sapphire Blue and Asphalt Blue) summarize the novelties in its appearance.
Despite the fact that León and Tarraco have put a new design language on the table, the SEAT Ibiza 2022 did not require plastic surgery to stay cool. Where the Spanish firm concentrated its efforts was where it was most needed, in the interior. The dash now uses soft - touch materials - the finish, at least in photos, is reminiscent of the Leon - the trims are more solid and the steering wheel can even be wrapped in Nappa leather.
The design of the board is transformed considerably. Except for the climate control controls, everything is new : the steering wheel, the textures, the brushed aluminum-like accent bar and the air conditioning vents, which not only have a contrasting outline, but also LED lighting, which varies in color depending on the version.
The infotainment system screen is now positioned as a tablet. It can be ordered in sizes from 8.25 to 9.2 inches , and adopts SEAT's new multimedia interface, compatible with voice commands that are activated by saying "hello, hello", renewed graphics and, depending on markets, an internet connection to obtain information on traffic or control the vehicle through a mobile app. It also integrates wireless compatibility with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay .
The SEAT Ibiza 2022 does not talk about new equipment, although it does specify new driving assistance for Europe. In addition to the autonomous emergency brake and the blind spot monitor, the Spanish hatchback now debuts a travel assistant, with which semi-autonomous driving is activated to follow the flow of traffic and stay in the lane.
For Europe, the SEAT Ibiza does not announce any mechanical novelty. Its range of engines is made up of four gasoline engines and one natural gas engine . The smallest is an 80-hp 1.0 MPI, followed by 1.0 TSI torque from 95 to 110 hp, and with a 150-hp 1.5 TSI as the more powerful option. The natural gas, called TGI, is 1.0 liter and generates 90 hp.
Everything indicates that in Mexico it will remain with the current mechanical configuration: a 1.6-liter naturally aspirated engine of 110 hp and 114 lb-ft, with the option of a five-speed manual transmission or a six-speed automatic in all versions. The top-of-the-line FR is the only one that supports the 115-hp 1.0 TSI with a six-speed manual gearbox.
The renewal of the SEAT Ibiza 2022 should arrive in Mexico with the change of the model year together with the new Arona , most likely during the summer, to reinforce the good moment that sales of this model are experiencing in our country and join the celebration of the 20th anniversary of the brand in Mexico. Its competitors include Suzuki Swift , KIA Rio , Fiat Argo and Peugeot 208 .
