As someone who has tested the MP-98 Knight to some success against the generally lighter armored Terminids, the recent buffs to the Knight’s durable damage, stagger force, recoil handling, and ammo economy in the latest balancing patch encouraged me to finally try bringing this primary to the Automaton front for the first time. Since the Knight is one handed, I paired it with the Ballistic Shield stratagem - a personal Automaton favorite of mine that viewers who follow this channel may recognize. Using the Ballistic Shield with the Knight allows me to get up close against the Automatons, giving me more accuracy when I burst fire the Knight. While aiming for Devastator heads can still be a tricky ordeal, the Ballistic Shield does a great job at protecting me, and the recent changes to Berserker health and armor values makes the Knight an excellent weapon at shredding through crowds of light Automaton enemies.

To lean into the bullet storm theme that comes with bringing the Knight, I brought the Heavy Machine Gun to provide me more heavy durable damage. For large crowds, the Stun Grenades are crucial in providing some breathing room especially when reloading the HMG. I also brought the Grenade Pistol for its explosive damage and explosive utility. However, instead of using my last two stratagem slots for an Eagle and Orbital, I decided to forgo my Orbital and brought the Expendable Anti-Tanks. This choice is partly inspired by my recent experimentation with the EATs as an incredibly efficient fabricator destroying utility, capable of blowing them up from any angle and from anywhere. Bringing the EATs in this build helped to drastically increase this build’s effective range, especially on a more open biome like Claorell. Lastly, I brought the Eagle Strafing run to help deal with light patrols and provide fabricator destroying utility. The vertical strike zone of the Strafing Run also helps to further this build’s effective reach.

Overall, I was impressed by the Knight’s performance in this build, especially in a more open map that tends to limit the use of Ballistic Shield builds. The changes to the Knight have definitely made it more effective in general, and I’m curious to see how it now fares against the Terminids. For the Super Citizens who would like to get some usage out of the Knight, I would recommend trying this build out!
