About this author:
Dr. Janet A. Chollet is a board-certified obstetrician–gynecologist, biotech entrepreneur, and translational medicine leader based in Boston. She is the Co-Founder and Chief Medical Officer of Procyrn LLC, where she directs the development of sustained-release hydrogel immune therapeutics and reformulated antivirals for maternal–fetal health, neuroinflammation, and HPV-related cervical disease.
With over 30 years of clinical and academic experience, Dr. Chollet has held roles at leading institutions such as Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and the University of Pittsburgh. She holds three U.S. patents in women’s health drug delivery and has driven multiple preclinical and early clinical programs, bridging patient care with drug development.
Her academic path began with a B.S. in Neuroscience from UC Santa Barbara, followed by an M.D. from New York Medical College and residency at LAC/USC Women’s Hospital in OB-GYN. Early career roles included clinical and teaching positions at Magee-Women’s Hospital, where her interest in translational medicine began to take shape.
In 2005, Dr. Chollet co-founded Pear Tree Pharmaceuticals, which developed hormone-free, site-specific therapies for conditions like vulvovaginal atrophy. Her work contributed to three patented innovations and ultimately supported the company’s merger with Dare Bioscience.
In 2023, she co-founded Procyrn LLC, where she leads programs targeting:
Preeclampsia and HELLP Syndrome (PC101), using a sustained-release hydrogel to prolong gestation safely;
C9orf72-associated ALS, applying immune-modulating therapeutics to neuroinflammation in partnership with Jackson Laboratory;
HPV-driven cervical dysplasia, developing non-surgical antiviral delivery for localized treatment.
She is also exploring maternal–fetal immune therapeutics to prevent neurodevelopmental disorders such as autism by preserving placental integrity and reducing inflammation in utero—an early-stage concept reflecting her interest in preventive strategies.
Beyond science, Dr. Chollet brings regulatory insight, having designed IND-enabling pathways, aligned development milestones with funding strategies, and emphasized scientific rigor in preclinical work to build investor confidence.
Her creative background includes co-writing the Emmy-winning ER episode “Love’s Labor Lost,” illustrating a strong narrative instinct that she now channels into medical innovation and communication.
Outside of work, Dr. Chollet values family, wellness, strength training, pets, and golf, and is increasingly focused on the application of AI in clinical and translational workflows—continuing her lifelong commitment to advancing care through innovation.
