The Matchbox 73B F1 Ferrari replicates the Ferrari 156 Formula One racing car that was used by the Scuderia between 1961 and 1964. More commonly known as the "Sharknose" due to its distinctive air intakes, the 156 would take Phil Hill to the Drivers Championship and earn Ferrari the Constructors Championship during its first year. Unfortunately, it came at the cost of team leader Wolfgang von Trips' life as he was killed at the Italian Grand Prix; the race where Hill and Ferrari would seal the Championships.

The 73B entered the Matchbox series in 1962, replacing the 10 Ton Pressure Refueller. It remained completely unchanged during its six year production run and was eventually replaced in 1968 by the 73C Mercury.

My casting was in a very poor state, missing a wheel, all of its paint and decals, its driver, and its steering wheel. As the wheels aren't yet reproduced, I needed a donor model. I managed to make two complete castings using two models in varying states of decay.
