📍 CodeAlpha Internship – Task Completed

Just completed Task 4 of the CodeAlpha Cybersecurity Internship, where I designed and implemented a virtual network defense setup using:

🔹 pfSense as the router and firewall
🔹 Suricata IDS for real-time traffic monitoring
🔹 Kali Linux to simulate external attacks
🔹 Manual incident response using firewall rules

🚀 In this task, I built a multi-VM network using VirtualBox, then simulated reconnaissance attacks (like Nmap scans and ICMP probes) from the Kali machine. Suricata successfully detected these events and generated alerts, which I then acted on by manually blocking the attacker’s IP address using pfSense firewall rules.

How to direct traffic through the right interfaces for IDS visibility
The limitations and strengths of Suricata on pfSense
The importance of pairing detection tools with enforcement controls
Real-world thinking: detection alone isn't enough without a response strategy
