Calabrese Turdilli (Italian Honey Balls) Traditional Family Recipe!!

Turdilli is a very special family recipe that my in laws made every Christmas and I’ve kept the tradition going in my family. I’ve kept my mother in law’s hand written recipe all these years and it’s definitely one of our favorite treats each Christmas. If you’re not familiar with this recipe, they’re essentially deep fried cookies drizzled with honey that’s so delicious! Enjoy from my family to yours ❤️

INGREDIENTS
3 eggs
1 cup of Vermouth
1 cup of granulated sugar
1/2 cup olive oil
5 cups of all purpose flour
1 lemon zest
2 cups of honey
1 tbsp of baking powder
Oil for frying
Sprinkles adjusted to your taste

INSTRUCTIONS
1. In a mixing bowl, add flour and baking powder and mix together.
2. Beat eggs and sugar until fluffy. Add vermouth and oil.
3. Mix dry and wet ingredients together
4. Work the dough gently and form a cord or strip, cut the dough into pieces approx 1 inch. Watch video for instructions on working dough.
5. Fry your turdilli until golden brown on med-low heat. Watch video for how long to fry.
6. In a separate pan melt the honey on low heat. Let it cool and pour over your turdilli. 
7. Add sprinkles on top. Enjoy!
