Since Russia's invasion of Ukraine began, Israel has avoided offending Moscow. Israel has given Kyiv with humanitarian supplies, but not the military and financial aid sought by President Zelensky.
Jerusalem's partnership with Moscow over Syria has impacted its neutrality, it says. Ukrainian leaders have criticized Israel for not supporting them vocally and monetarily. Because Israel is worried about its own security and wants to use deterrence in the region, it is unlikely to give Ukraine everything it wants.
Mid-June, an Israeli Defense Ministry representative attended a U.S.-led 50-country summit in Brussels. The Ukraine Defense Contact Group considered supporting Ukraine throughout Russia's invasion. In the same week, Ukraine requested $5 million from Israel.
