The Orange Democratic Party, ODM has postponed it's nominations from the 9th to the 17th of January just a day before the deadline for submission of party nomination lists to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission. ODM elections board chairman Franklin Bett says the postponement was occasioned by the amendments in the Elections Act and Political Parties Act that were assented to by President Mwai Kibaki on the eve of the new year, including the clause that allows aspirants to change parties until January 18th. Meanwhile, ODM's Cord coalition partner, the Wiper Democratic party elections board chairman Henry Robb has announced that the party will conduct it's nominations on the 12th of January. The nominations exercise amounts to a time bomb in waiting for major political parties who fear that losers during the primaries will have adequate time to jump ship.
