Watch collectors seem to love the Casio Duro (sometimes called the Marlin), which is available as the MDV-106 in the United States and the MDV-107 in International markets. In the last few months, Casio has released international versions of the MDV-107 in new colors which are NOT available in the U.S. market (or on MDV-106 versions), at least not yet. So far, I can only seem to find these when I look at retailers which are based in Singapore or Hong Kong. So, please take a moment with me and I'll tell you what I've learned so far about these brand new color options for the much-loved Casio Duro!

The Casio MDV-106 and MDV-107 watches feature an all-metal case with a metal, screw down case back and a screw down crown. These are designed to have a water resistance rating of 200 Meters (although it's not officially certified for diving like some other watches, including Casio's Frogman G-Shock watches). Still, I would confidently say that the Duro's water resistance is more than enough for 99% of those of us who use these in the water. The watch may be considered as an homage to the much more expensive Rolex Submariner because of its simple, three-hand analog face with a date window at the 3 o'clock position. But, obviously, it's far different from a real Rolex and that's okay too. If you want a diver-style watch with a reliable and accurate quartz movement which is also tough, heavy, good looking and has a price tag which makes it an irresistible value, I would encourage you to look at the Casio Duro line of MDV-106 and MDV-107 watches.

Although I haven't dedicated much effort to modifying my watches, I should note that the Casio Duro is a very popular watch among watch enthusiasts who DO like to modify their watches. You'll find a lot of support and parts if you want to change the bezel, change the hands, replace the original crystal with something like a convex and/or sapphire crystal, and much, much more! Many of these Duro watches are available with standard, resin watch bands or with metal bracelets. But you'll also discover that you can use many other styles of straps and bracelets if you want to, including the ever-popular NATO style straps. And, if you're really adventurous, you might even try to do a "hydro mod" with a Casio Duro (and even if you don't like it and/or something doesn't work right, at least you haven't spend very much money on the watch). As for me, I'll still probably just leave my Duros the way they were when I bought them. That's okay too.
