Fun Fact:

The HSV VL SS Group A SV is a limited edition homologation high performance sedan version by Australian automaker Holden's performance division HSV or Holden Special Vehicles.

It was built to compete in the Group A Australian touring car racing. It's the first Holden to be built and modified by HSV in collaboration with British racing team Tom Walkinshaw Racing. Previous high performance Holden Commodores were tuned by Holden Dealership Team or HDT but unfortunately Holden had cut ties with HDT and parted ways in 1987.

TWR developed the bodykit for the VL SS Group A SV and stated that it will reduce drag by 25% over previous HDT SS Group A. Due to high use of plastic in the bodykit , was later nicknamed the " Plastic Pig " and "Batmobile". The HSV VL SS Group A SV was also nicknamed the VL Walkinshaw or Walky.

Holden would send a few VL Commodores from Dandenong, Melbourne. HSV would removed any filter parts and built by hand at their headquarters in Clayton , Victoria Australia.

It was the first high performance Holden to use Holden's new fuel injected V8 engine , still naturally aspirated. The power output is 180 kW and 380 Nm of torque paired standard with a 5 speed Borg Warner BTS6 manual gearbox.

All HSV VL SS Group A SV came in one colour called Panorama Sliver, named after Mount Panorama Circuit in Bathurst, Australia.

0 to 100km/h in 6,5 seconds and top speed is between 230 to 235 km/h or 140 to 146 mph.

It has a SS Group A with fuel injected decal on the boot . HSV logo in the bonnet, wheels , boot and steering wheel.Has a number plague on the passenger side dashboard showing how many were made.

The suspension of the HSV VL SS Group A SV are front independent McPherson struct with Bilstein dampers and linear coil springs and rear 5 link Panhard rod progressive coil springs and a live rear axle. The brakes are both front and rear ventilated disc brakes , front finned ventilated and rear ventilated disc brakes.

HSV initially built 500 of them to meet homologation,due to the demand and selling like hotcakes, an additional 250 were built in total 750 of them made between March to November 1988. However it became a bad idea , HSV was about to launched the next generation SS Group A SV based on the VN Holden Commodore,but it was leaked in August 1988 so they decided to launched the car for the 1989 model year.

The HSV VL SS Group A SV value at auction depending on the mileage, condition and originally can go for approximately between 220,000 to 500,000 AUD or 2,45 to 5,57 million ZAR.

They are highly collectable by diehard Holden enthusiasts or Australian car enthusiasts in general. Highly sought after and an iconic Australian muscle car, what a legend this machine is.
