The Consumer Attorneys Group of California, along with CA State Senator Umberg, have proposed new legislation that would fundamentally remove the Code protections in place to ensure a fair trial. They would have you believe it is in the best interest of the consumer to take the possession of the sealed, hard copy original transcript and place it in the custody of the witness being deposed, and his/her attorney. This couldn't be farther from the truth! The CA Code of Civ. Proc. 2025 currently says that the original transcript must be protected AT ALL TIMES from tampering, alteration and destruction.

Why would a group of attorneys want to remove protections in place to protect a transcript from tampering or alteration? Have they themselves been tampering with and altering the transcript, and this is an opportunity to cover their tracks? Are these attorneys scared of being exposed and losing their licenses and potentially being disbarred?
