It’s December, and it’s officially time to shift from saving mode into debt payoff mode — intentional, steady, and fully committed.

Welcome back, and welcome if you’re new! My name is Ty, and this is Budget Tooles, where we plan with purpose, save with intention, and celebrate every little win along the journey.

I’m excited to share that I just reached Baby Step #1 — my first $1,000 emergency fund!
I built it in just six weeks, even with a low disposable income and while paying my son’s rent at college and contributing to his tuition so he doesn’t accumulate more debt. It took discipline, mini savings challenges, and a lot of intention. I’m really proud of that progress.

Now that Baby Step #1 is complete, I’m slowing things down a bit so I can focus on the bigger wins: debt payoff.
A full debt confession is coming soon, but here’s how I’m approaching it:

• Immediate credit cards + small loans
• My car loan
• And then…the mountain of student loans (BA + MA + part of another master’s + and now cash-flowing my BCBA certification because I only need seven more courses!)

It’s a lot — but I’m taking it one intentional step at a time.
