❗A visit to Varenna is a must if you are in Milan (from where you arrive after an hour by train) or in one of the central towns on the lake such as Bellagio, Menaggio or Tremezzina, which are only 15-20 minutes away by ferry.

Explore Varenna
Although small, Varenna is one of the prettiest little towns on the shores of Lake Como in Lombardy, and there are some very beautiful gardens to visit, so we highly recommend a visit if you are exploring the Italian lakes. Although Varenna does not shy away from visitors, it does tend to be less crowded than some of the more famous villages around the lake.

As with most towns on Lake Como, you will probably start your visit to Varenna with a walk along the lake: the promenade is very picturesque. The path starts at the pier where you get off the boat. The first part of the walk is a narrow path that runs along the edge of the lake.

As you approach the centre of the village, you have a wonderful view of the harbour, the colourful houses and the church behind the houses, and towards the mountains that surround the village.
