Organisers hoped that numbers would be swelled by the case brought in the UN's International Court of Justice by South Africa, which accuses Israel of genocide in Gaza.

The protests also came amid heightened international tensions as the USA carried out another airstrike in Yemen - this time against a Houthi radar base.
