Andy Wilkinson (60) Got Mistaken for His Daughters Boyfriend, Here His Fitness Secrets!
75 kilos, 20 reps — let’s go!
Meet Andy Wilkinson, a 60-year-old grandfather whose six-pack could rival that of any Hollywood superhero, including Chris Hemsworth himself.
With seven grandchildren, Andy’s youthful looks often confuse people — some even assume he’s in his 30s!
"When I’m on vacation and walking around shirtless, women in their 30s sometimes approach me," Andy shared in a British interview.
"There’ve even been moments when I’ve been mistaken for my daughter’s boyfriend instead of her dad — which can be pretty awkward!"
So what’s his secret? According to Andy, there’s no shortcut to a strong, sculpted body.
"You can’t buy it, you can’t rent it. You’ve got to earn it — one day at a time."
He lives by six key principles that keep him looking and feeling vibrant well into his 60s.
Andy has three kids — Claire, 40, Lee, 38, and Sarah, 36 — and seven grandkids aged between 9 and 13. Despite his age, he remains energetic and agile, like when he posed for a photo with his 13-year-old granddaughter Sophia.
His wife also shares his enthusiasm for fitness. And while you might assume Andy lives at the gym, chugs supplements, or even uses performance enhancers — that couldn’t be further from the truth.
In reality, Andy steers clear of grueling workouts, avoids all supplements, and firmly rejects any kind of injections or chemical aids.
"I’ve trained naturally all these years, and I believe that’s the only way to stay truly healthy and youthful," Andy says.
When he looks at other fitness enthusiasts, he sees too many relying on protein shakes, bars, and powders.
"None of that will give you the body you’re after," he says. "It comes down to good nutrition, smart habits, and cutting back on carbs as you get older."
Here are the six principles Andy swears by for maintaining his youthful energy and appearance:
1. Stay Calm — Stress Ages You
"Stress is a silent killer," Andy explains. "That’s why I’ve trained myself not to stress about things I can’t control."
He practices living in the moment and focusing on the positive. His personal motto?
"Everything will be fine."
It helps him stay centered, even when life gets tough.
2. Prioritize Quality Sleep
"I believe sleep is a major contributor to my youthful look," Andy says.
He avoids eating late, always gets to bed before midnight, and sleeps in total darkness — without his phone nearby.
That routine helps him wake up refreshed and fully recharged.
3. Eat Smart — Nutrition is 75% of the Equation
Andy learned early on that getting in shape isn’t just about working out — it’s mostly about what you eat.
"In my 30s, I realized diet was key. I didn’t need fancy supplements to stay fit — just better eating habits."
By controlling his portions and cutting down on carbs, he’s kept his weight in check and his energy levels high.
4. Reduce Carb Intake as You Age
"The older you get, the less carbs your body needs," Andy advises.
He’s adjusted his diet with age — now, a small serving of rice or half a sweet potato is plenty to fuel his workouts.
And especially at night, he keeps carbs to a minimum, always listening to his body’s changing needs.
5. Train 3 Times a Week — No More
"Mussels — not muscles — are the key to youth," Andy jokes, "but a strong core is the real foundation of health."
As a personal trainer for over a decade, Andy knows the value of balance.
He lifts weights three times a week for an hour max, and plays tennis or squash on other days.
"You don’t have to overdo it — too much training can lead to injury or burnout."
6. Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate
"I drink at least three liters of water every single day," Andy says.
"You can use all the skin creams in the world, but if you’re not drinking enough water, your skin will show it."
Andy’s lifestyle isn’t about chasing fads. He sticks to simple, timeless habits.
He ensures rest days between workouts, eats clean, and keeps things uncomplicated.
His diet?
For breakfast: a slice of seeded bread with salmon, half an avocado, and two poached eggs.
Sometimes, he’ll have a bowl of chia seeds, flaxseeds, blueberries, hemp seeds, and a spoonful of peanut butter mixed with almond milk.
Lunch is usually Cajun chicken with three tablespoons of rice and broccoli, plus a spoon of coleslaw now and then.
For dinner: slow-cooked chicken with sweetcorn and veggies, or a tasty Thai or Indian chicken curry with a bit of rice.
If he snacks, it’s almonds, Brazil nuts, or an apple — though he doesn’t snack often.
Throughout the day, Andy keeps his hydration levels up, drinks coffee occasionally, and enjoys a glass of quality red wine here and there.
For treats, it’s a small bar of 70% dark chocolate or a profiterole or two — because life is about balance, after all.
Andy believes simplicity is the ultimate fitness hack.
