MURDER HORNET STING? EUROPEAN HORNET: Vespa crabro

The European hornet, now dubbed by some as the American Murder hornet after the Japanese giant hornet scare of 2020, is a large invasive hornet species in North America. These beautiful hornets are primarily carnivorous and hunt a variety of soft bodied insects such as crickets and caterpillars. Now although hornets often get a bad reputation, they are critical members of the environments they (naturally) inhabit! The provide many ecological services such as controlling smaller arthropod populations through predation, being important pollinators, as well as becoming food for a host of other species! This sting was quite interesting as I was expecting it to be much more painful than it ended up being. I guess we'll just have to film more sting videos this year.
