In July of 2025, alongside the Magic Kingdom version of the ride, Disney debuted an unreleased third verse of the song in the finale portion of the ride. Shortly before his death, Richard Sherman composed this verse and mentioned it to Bob Iger. On November 27, 2024, Disney premiered it in a short film on ABC (and later on constant loop at the Main Street Cinema). On average, the song is played 1,200 times during a 16-hour operating day.

Initially, under the working title "Children of the World", the track was originally supposed to feature the national anthems of every country represented throughout the ride; they were all played at once, resulting in cacophony. The Sherman brothers then wrote "It's a Small World" in the wake of the 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis (the Cold War scared a lot of people), which influenced the song's message of peace and brotherhood. Robert B. Sherman's youngest son, Robert J. Sherman, has said that this song is the single most-performed and most-translated piece of music ever produced.
