The news was confirmed by his longtime friend Frank J. Reilly, who wrote on X “The great actor, my friend Jerry Adler died today at the age of 96. You know him from one of his iconic roles… Not bad for a guy who didn’t start acting until he was 65.”
A Brooklyn-born New Yorker and cousin of legendary acting coach Stella Adler, Jerry Adler became a household name for his portrayal of Hesh Rabkin — the savvy Jewish-American businessman and consigliere to James Gandolfini’s mob boss Tony Soprano. Appearing in 28 episodes, Adler’s performance became one of the most memorable supporting roles in the iconic series.
Though The Sopranos cemented his fame, Adler had an extensive screen career. He appeared in The Good Wife and its spinoff *The Good Fight*, *Rescue Me*, *Transparent*, *Crazy Ex-Girlfriend*, and countless other television favorites, often playing characters who carried both sharp wit and heart.
