I recently applied for and won a makeover organized by a wonderful person with a truly caring heart. The entire experience was phenomenal and was really momentous for me as I had wanted to change my look ever since undergoing the first colon-removing surgery. For all of you out there just about to undergo jpouch surgery, I think giving yourself a makeover in any sense of the word is a really good post-recovery goal. I feel that we do become a different person than who we were before our diagnosis and dealing with the disease can also make us feel not so glamorous at times so I like the idea of rewarding our struggles with a change in appearance!

The experience also reminded me that phenomenal, caring, and generous people do exist even if we haven't met them yet and in the course of dealing with this disease, I think we can derive comfort by reminding ourselves of this fact (especially since we have to put up with a lot of inconsiderate, arrogant people in the medical and non-medical community).
