The Earth is a magnificent planet which provides with a lot of things that occur naturally.
Natural resources, rivers, valleys, oceans, seas, different species of animals and beautiful varieties of plants and trees are biodiversity of the earth.
As a result of some human activities the nature is suffering and numerous varieties of animals, forests and plants are becoming extinct day by day.
As a consequence of these human activities causing biodiversity to fade.
I would like to describe the Aral Sea disaster that affects to the biodiversity of the world.
The Aral Sea was considered as one of the world’s largest lake situated in Central Asia.
There were many flora and fauna and various species of fish in the Aral Sea.
The Aral Sea provided the Soviet Union with fish and fish products.
But today’s condition of the Aral Sea is so dreadful and it has been causing serious problems to the environment since 1960.
Not to mention the fact that the salinity levels also increased significantly damaging rich delta ecosystems and influencing local fish thereby affecting local communities that relied on fishing as their main source of income and many people abandoned their homes to another country or cities.
Moreover, the disaster of the Aral Sea became more and more obvious and the local government aimed at improving the environmental, social, economic, and demographic situation in the Aral Sea region.
Furthermore global organizations paid attention to it and financial resources and fond were given to the implementation activities of the region.
But the gap between words and actions were not equal at that time because of shortage of scientific knowledge. So that it continued polluting the environment with the dust and sandy storms.
The most affected people and animals of the most affected areas continued to leave their living areas.
At the 76th session of the UN General Assembly in September 2017, Shavkat Mirziyoyev the President of Uzbekistan was initiated resolution and described it as the “epicenter of an ecological disaster.” and 50 states joined to the resolution.
Then the government of Uzbekistan started doing local greenery projects and planted Haloxylon to dried parts of the Aral Sea.
Moreover on 18 May 2021 in New York, during the plenary meeting of the 75th session of the General Assembly of the United Nations, a special resolution was unanimously adopted on declaring the Aral Sea region a zone of environmental innovations and technologies.
As a citizen of Uzbekistan, I want to contribute my efforts to find an alternative solution to the disaster and work with foreign specialist.
In the first quarter of this year, we planted a lot of Haloxylon with an OISCA’s expert.
Then we did a water project with French students.
The aim of the project was collecting water from humidity and using it for irrigation needs in an arid climate.
At the present time, we are working on the drip irrigation project together with Chinese experts for increasing yields of cotton and sorghum and it allows us to economize the water usage for the plants.
Previously stated planting Haloxylons and water projects are one alternative solution of that dried part of the Aral Sea causing dust and salt storms that carry tons of dust and poisonous minerals into the atmosphere.
Today we need the active consolidation and assistance of international efforts for solving the Aral Sea catastrophe. Now I am ready all efforts to safeguard present and future projects that make better the living condition of the Aral Sea and create new green jobs for the local people.
