One in a series of seminars presented as part of The Paley Center for Media's 2025 Fall TV Previews PALEYFEST events. Recorded virtually, this evening celebrates "Heart & Hustle: Houston," OWN's documentary series about black women entrepreneurs based in Houston.

Shelby Stewart (associate editor, Essence) moderates the following panelists: Madison Merritt, executive vice president, unscripted content and alternative programming, Jesse Collins Entertainment; and cast members Alaina Saulsberry, Chloe Cook, La'Torria Lemon, LeBrina Jackson, Muneera Page, and Roe Pichardo.

The panelists touch on such topics as: the reasons behind Merritt's decision to develop a unique documentary series about black women for Oprah Winfrey's network; the goal to avoid any and all stereotypes of reality shows; the choice to base "Heart & Hustle" in Houston; Saulsberry's initial struggle in exposing her "true self" on unscripted television; why Cook thinks that the show's focus on empowered but conflicted women has produced an essential viewing experience; how Jackson has thrived professionally and personally via "the magic of black female friendship"; the ways that Lemon's philanthropic endeavors have benefited from her being spotlighted on the series; Page's belief that sisterhood has been the guiding force in her life; the secret for Pichardo to maintain her "heart and hustle" in a male-dominated business world; the panelists' words of encouragement for women trying to build themselves up; and how the show has "refined" unscripted television while showcasing the strength and courage of black women.
