Описание к видео Doña Ana Peak (HD re-upload)

I am re-uploading this video so it can viewed in 1080. You can now see both ends of this unique mountain range in HD from the northern (Doña Ana Peak) and southern (Summerford Mountain) most points.

The Doña Ana Mountains are a conglomerate of peaks that sit just north of Las Cruces, NM. To the west is Robledo Mountain, and to the east are the San Andres Mountains. Despite the range's proximity to a population center, I feel this smaller cluster of mountains goes often unnoticed or under appreciated. One can view them while driving on the i25 and pay little mind to them. However, up close you learn that this is a local hidden gem! At 5,835 ft Doña Ana Peak is one of two mutually highest point within the range. Other major peaks is the equally high Summerford Mountain and also Peak 5833. Numerous trails run through the range which appear to be mainly for dirt bikes, however there is vehicular access. Most would approach from the park that sits nearby, but there is also a means to approach it from the West and South. You might be hard pressed on luck if you think you won't have to walk a couple miles to the mountains from the west as the terrain prior to them become exceptionally unforgiving for vehicles that aren't made for high clearance. 4 wheel drive and high clearance is strongly recommended regardless how you approach the mountains.

As for the mountain itself, there is no trail and most would likely want to climb this mountain from either it's eastern slope or for those unafraid of hostile plant life head on from the North. Personally I have found that approaching the summit from the west to be my personal preference despite the terrain being sketchier here due to the talus field and steep approach. It does provide an amazing view though and is quite fun!

My goal to take on as many peaks as I can while I am stationed in Texas has not been satiated. The first time I climbed up this mountain was back on August 11th, 2019. Upon our arrival to the summit we could not find a registry. We built a cairn to mark the high point. Just over 2 months later I returned with a mission. To install a registry on the summit for all future peak baggers, climbers, and hiking enthusiasts. I decided to install it within the previously built cairn and supported it with additional rocks to weigh it down... I hope it works long term. As of the original publishing of this video there is currently 3 entries in the registry. I hope to visit at least one more time to prod the other section of this peak. Hopefully the registry is still there and contains additional entries.

2nd time up felt a lot easier and I got to introduce this mountain to one of my friends in my unit. Despite the challenge it imposed on him, I know he had fun. I hope you enjoy this video! Stay wild!

I do not own the Rights to any of the music used in this video.
