The World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development is observed to promote cultural diversity and also to showcase the important role of intercultural dialogue. On this occasion, Indigenous Television conducted an interview with Valerie Julliand, UN Resident Coordinator in Nepal. Talking to Dev Kumar Sunuwar about the essense of cultural diversity, she says that the unique cultural diversity has made Nepal, a special country. If not cherished, Nepal will lose its beauty, thus be cherished with fullest. In 2002, UN General Assembly declared May 21 to be the world Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development, following the UNESCO’s adoption of Universal Declaration on Cultural Diversity in previous year. The day provides an opportunity to deepen the understanding the values of cultural diversity and also helps to showcase the richness of the world’s cultures for achieving peace and sustainable development.
