Guyana is a pioneer in Community MRV (CMRV).

CMRV empowers communities to understand, participate in, and benefit from REDD+. In the model that’s been pursued in Guyana, CMRV also provides a link between the satellite-data-based national MRVS and information gathered by the forest owners on the ground; providing the opportunity to improve the accuracy of the national system, while informing local decision making. In addition to providing indigenous and other hinterland communities with the capacity to monitor their forest resources, CMRV also offers the tools to monitor other natural resources that are of concern to the community, as well as the community’s health and wellbeing (potentially providing both environmental and social safeguard metrics).
