At the Geneva Motor Show, Pininfarina’s Head of HMI and UX/UI, demonstrates “Cellula,” a modular seating buck tethered to a Varjo XR-3 headset that places visitors inside the Enigma GT cockpit. Tour mode projects augmented-reality graphics on the windscreen: a context-aware AI labels Sentinel Peak and neighbouring landmarks, analyses traffic, and recommends curated routes. Once a destination is chosen, the HMI flips into “sport” mode; exterior lighting cues, colour palettes, instrument clusters and performance telemetry shift instantly, letting engineers study interface legibility under contrasting visual load.

Moa notes that Cellula functions as both an ideation and validation rig. Designers iterate seating geometry, surface treatment, UI layouts and interaction flows while the same digital twin hosts stakeholder reviews. Up to four occupants can sit in the buck simultaneously, and feedback is captured in real time. The Varjo XR-3’s 4 K-per-eye micro-OLEDs, high-quality passthrough cameras and workstation-grade GPUs support class-A surface checks, perceived-quality studies, aerodynamics overlays and mixed-reality swaps without latency, bringing digital hardware closer to traditional clay modelling while retaining a fully traceable pipeline.

Designboom reports that the Enigma GT study couples a hydrogen-fuelled mid-rear internal-combustion engine with an electric motor on the front axle, yielding all-wheel drive beneath a panoramic glass canopy that doubles as a 180-degree AR display. Pininfarina’s own service pages list Cellula as the core “interactive buck” within its automotive UX/HMI portfolio, where it links VR seats, wind-tunnel CFD and interface prototyping into a single data backbone. The Geneva setup therefore shows how a hydrogen-hybrid grand tourer can be conceived, critiqued and virtually experienced months before any physical prototype enters the workflow.
